John Savage has been playing saxophone since the age of 12 and composing and arranging since 14. He attended The Colege of Saint Rose studying under saxophonist Paul Evoskevich, earning a BS in Music Education and a MA in Jazz Studies. At Saint Rose he had the oppotunity to play with jazz greats Bob Mintzer, Jeff Jarvis, Ralph LaLama, Chris Vadala and Bill Watrous while they were guests with the college jazz ensemble.
John began teaching at Gloversville High School in 1995 taking over the duties of his former teacher Norman Clo. During that time, he has had the oppotunity to continue his performing schedule while passing on his passion for music to his students.
John currently performs with The John Savage Quartet, Out of the Box, and is an on call sub for local and regional work with horn sections and other jazz groups.
